Reporting to the International Trade Compliance Manager, this role will be responsible for the import/export (Trade Compliance) from/to our branches and regional distribution centers.


  • Setup all data and forms between Operating Companies, vendors and the broker to ensure smooth importing into Canada or the United States.
  • Assists with the implementation of National Trade compliance initiatives (i.e. CSA - Customs Self Assessment) 
  • Assists with Harmonized code classification utilized by the Customs Broker(s) for best possible duty relief. 
  • Generate & Analyze cost saving (i.e. Current vs Legacy Freight Forwarders) and Landed Cost reports. 
  • Assists with the migration of business (existing or new acquisitions) from legacy forwarders and customs brokers to approved service providers. 
  • Research and provide analysis for alternate related sourcing related to trade compliance (i.e. CIF to FOB conversion or sourcing from GPT Nations for duty relief). 
  • Work with sourcing on current and new products being imported to develop the best transportation process and lowest possible duty relief for those products. 
  • Obtains and maintains blanket NAFTA certificates from Vendors and ensures they are correct and in compliance with Customs Regulations. 
  • Audit customs broker for trade compliance rules and seek amendments where required. 
  • File duty drawbacks claims directly with Customs. 
  • Follow through with service providers on any corrective actions. 
  • May be required to perform other projects or duties as required (i.e. vacation coverage).
  • Source spot quotes for adhoc international Branch or DC shipments (import/export).


This position focuses on Wolseley Canada and Ferguson initiatives relating to import/export trade compliance and freight forwarding requirements. 


  • Post Secondary education in Business or related field, plus a minimum of five (5) years work experience in a similar role or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent/Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications (Access, Word and Excel) is required.
  • Knowledge of transborder, international transportation/freight forwarding and trade compliance (Incoterms, Freight Forwarders, US Trade Compliance, Letter of Credits and Wire Transfers).
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Proven ability to deal with conflict.
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly organized in prioritizing work, multi-tasking, and consistently meeting deadlines within a fast paced work environment.
  • Extreme attention to detail.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a collaborative team based environment.
  • Obtained CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist) designation from Canadian Society of Customs Brokers (C.S.C.B.) is an asset.
